No One Is Coming to Save You: Finding Agency in the Little Moments

There's a parable I love. It's about a man caught in a flood.

The rain is pouring. The water is rising. A truck pulls up and the driver says, "Get in. The floods are coming."

The man says, "No. My God will save me."

So the truck leaves.

The water keeps rising. The man climbs onto his roof. A boat comes by. "Hop in," they say. "We've got to get out of here."

"No," he says again. "My God will save me."

The boat leaves.

Then a helicopter. Same thing. "No, my God will save me."

He drowns.

And when he gets to heaven, he asks God, "I thought you were going to save me?"

God says, "I tried three times. I sent you a truck, a boat, and a helicopter."

I think about this story all the time. Because I think so many of us - especially women - are waiting to be saved.

We're waiting for someone to notice we're drowning. We're waiting for permission to change. We're waiting for the perfect moment, the right opportunity, the external validation that says, "Yes, now you can do the thing you've been dreaming about."

But here's the truth: No one is coming to save you but you.

And I don't mean that in a harsh way. I mean it as an invitation. A reminder. A wake-up call.

You are the only one who knows what's in your heart. You are the only one who knows the deep desire you have to make change, to create, to impact, to become. And you are the only one who gets to take the first step.

In this episode, I talk about:

  • The biblical parable that teaches us about recognizing the help that's already here

  • Why no one is coming to save you (and why that's actually empowering)

  • The roles we play in our lives and how older versions of ourselves make choices we're still living with

  • How to find agency even when your time and energy are largely accounted for

  • The concept of "glimmers” - tiny moments of joy that can anchor you through the hardest seasons

  • How Ashley pulled herself out of burnout by starting with Epsom salt baths and her favorite earrings

  • Why living in a state of joy changes everything, even when circumstances don't

  • …and so much more!

My Key Takeaways:

  1. You are the only one who can save you.
I know this sounds heavy, but it's liberating. It means you don't have to wait for permission or someone to tell you it's okay.

  2. Glimmers are survival tools, not frivolous luxuries.
I didn't start with big changes. I started with my favorite shampoo, earrings, and Epsom salt baths - little moments that reminded me I still mattered.

  3. Change doesn't require burning it all down.
You can reclaim agency with micro increments. Say no to one thing, invite a friend to lunch, wear your favorite lipstick - spaciousness creates possibility.

  4. You get to choose how you show up.
Even when working multiple jobs or caring for others, you have agency over your attitude, energy, and what you give attention to. That choice matters.

  5. Radical self-love starts with radical self-acceptance.
When you stop waiting to be different or more healed and love yourself now, everything shifts. You attract alignment and make choices from wholeness.

This episode is so personal to me because I lived it. I know what it's like to feel stuck in a life you built with an older version of yourself. I know what it's like to wait for permission that never comes. I know what it's like to finally take that first step - even when it's terrifying.

And I also know what it's like on the other side. When you stop waiting. When you choose yourself. When you find those glimmers and let them fill you up.

So if you're in a season of waiting - waiting to be saved, waiting for the right time, waiting for someone to tell you it's okay - this is your sign.

No one is coming. But that's not a tragedy. It's an invitation.

You are the one who gets to choose. And speaking from experience, just taking that one step can change it all.
